Ken Orton is an artist best known for his glass jar and bottle paintings.
Ken Orton was born in the Yardley area of Birmingham in 1951. From an early age all he can remember is always painting, all of his early paintings were copied from his brother’s work, who was a very talented painter. After Ken left school, he went on to study at colleges of art in Birmingham and Manchester, after graduating he taught art in Birmingham before moving to Spain and spent the next 20 years running the Joan Miro Centro de Arte and the Baleares International School.
He moved to America in 1999 and spent the New Year in New York, now splitting his time between there and Florida. In more recent years Ken Orton has awards for his paintings in a number of Exhibitions throughout the US, one of his most prized is the Washington Square painting prize.
His style of painting glass jars comes from when he moved house, and in the cellar he found box after box of Mason Jars, moving them into the main house, he then spent days looking at them and began to realize what a great subject matter they really are.
