Jeff Rowland - unbeatable prices
Jeff Rowland became self employed as a professional artist in 1984 after studying at North Tyneside College. His main medium was oil, but experimented with printing, glass engraving and painting. His fascination with oil began when he was a child, watching his grandmother using oil in a paint by numbers. In 2000, as times became hard, Rowland had to re-train, doing an HND in advertising/illustration as a visualizer at Newcastle. He worked hard on live briefs whilst there and won a NEPA award ( North East Print Association).
Still looking for work, after graduating Rowland could still not stay away from art, he exhibited his artwork at the London Affordable, and had a sell out in one day. Later he exhibited in Edinburgh and Dublin and had equal success. He admits his work has changed in the past couple of years, trying to capture a certain atmosphere or moment.
Rowland likes for his viewers to see what they wish in his paintings, reading what they will into it, he believes that the viewer always has the answer.
Part of Rowland’s working process is to experience what he is about to paint, as he did when he did his series of Trawler men a while ago, venturing out into the North Sea with the men, sketching them as they worked. Some may think he is mad, but he loved it and now uses the same approach to his rain pictures.
Jeff Rowland lives with his partner, Alison and his son, Chris in Monkseaton, near to the North East coast. An early riser, he is usually in his home studio by 7.00- 7.30 and loving what he does for a living he is very organised and knows the night before what jobs he will be doing the next morning. When he starts to paint he is completely engrossed in it, he describes it as like reading a good book, becoming lost in the story, forgetting where you really are.
