Beginning his study of art in the Birmingham College of Art and Design, Paul Powis studied for a for a Foundation Degree in Art and Design between 1968 and 1969, moving on to study at Portsmoth Polytechnic to study a Fine Art BA Honours Degree and graduating in 1973.

Upon reaching the finish of his training as an abstract painter, Powis went back into education, this time to lecture in drawing and painting for twenty-five years. He became a Senior Lecturer in Drawing & Painting
at the University of Central England in 1988 and has exhibited all over the country, becoming a reputable landscape painter with many shows including but not limited to the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal College of Art and in the Mall Galleries, all in London.
Powis has also had his work feature in many art galleries and municipal museums all across the UK and USA.

Appearing in one of VW's many adverts, Paul Powis's painting 'Rape' has become universally recognised and has been exhibited in the Museum of Modern Illustration in New York. Powis' artwork has also been featured
consistently in the Best Of British illustration exhibitions for the last ten years and have been published in over twenty books and magazines in the last five years alone. Joining Washington Green in May 1999,
Powis has had nine of his original works published as limited edition silk-screens. Powis' most recent achievement is having a selection of his original acrylics displayed at the Halcyon Gallery's 'Art in Miniature'
