Sarah Graham Latest Release - unbeatable prices

Sarah Graham is best known for her paintings of old toys and sweets. Since graduating from university in 2000, the only thing in Sarah’s life that has remained the same is her paining.

She has been painting now for as long as she can remember so it doesn’t come as much of a shock to her friends and family. Her dad helped feed her passion for painting and was always buying her sister various artists’ materials and by the time she turned 8, was already using oils.

Sarah is forever being asked by people what happened in life to allow her to be able to paint full time, But she struggle’s to give an answer, because it’s a combination of luck, lucky encounters with the right people and just the sheer determination to be able to do the one thing Sarah loves and get paid for it.

But even so, she still believed that if she could get her work out into the open, then surely it would be easy? Over time this was going round in her head all day,. Every day, becoming determined to succeed. In the first few years of trying she was often told by galleries that they wouldn’t stock her work, so rarely made any income from her art.

Not long after moving to Berkshire (Reading) Sarah was looking for somewhere to keep the works she had produced on the art degree, she came across a local gallery that agreed to not only store it but exhibit it, and soon sold it for £1000, and then started working for them part time, but then also gave her a chance to work from her own studio. She had agreed that due a florist relocating she could for a small rent fee, use the shop as a studio if she sold the flowers out the front of the shop.

Next door was a vintage model shop which was to become her inspiration for her art, so spent hours in there finding her subjects. Whilst at university Sarah had been painting mainly portraits of other students, but now needed to find a subject that wasn’t personal to be able sell more of her work in galleries, so the old sweets and toys became the perfect solution.

Spending every single day in her studio, she spent all her time produce a large amount of pieces, which then lead to her first London exhibition. After exhibiting in various galleries all over London and Berkshire, Sarah moved back to her hometown of Hitchin, initially using her old bedroom as a studio, but eventually finding the perfect place in an old converted barn, it was the kind of space she had always dreamed of but having no idea where she would find the money to pay the rent. Only a month later Sarah signed with her publisher Washington Green.
